A chance remark...
During a visit to the practice of one of his customers, my father’s attention was drawn to the dentist’s favourite forceps - a lower ‘Cow horn’ pattern. These displaced the tooth very effectively but then failed to ‘grasp’ it, often causing the tooth to tip back into the mouth.
Dad subsequently gave the matter some thought. He soon reasoned that, if the basic ‘Cow horn’ design incorporated a wider ‘wing’ about half-way back from each pointed tip, the forceps would lift the tooth free and then be positively locked in place by the ‘wing’ section. Prototypes were soon made for clinical evaluation and I well remember dad being quite taken aback by the enthusiastic response!
A quick perusal of the ‘Birds of Prey’ section of my old Children’s Encyclopaedia left no doubt as to what to name the new forceps ... and ‘Eagle Beak’ was born!

Upper Eagle Beak(Right & Left)
The extraordinary response to the introduction of Neville Lower Eagle Beaks quickly led to requests for an Upper version.
After consultation with various dental clinicians, it was decided that an Eagle Beak buccal blade combined with a split ‘half moon’ palatal blade provided the best design.
A very positive ‘hold’ can be taken around the roots of badly decayed molar teeth to greatly simplify difficult extractions. Customers have often referred to the Upper Eagle Beaks as ‘surgical savers’.
